FRP Installation FAQ

Straight answers about FRP panels, cost, substrates, health code and scheduling in Calgary.

How do I find a reliable FRP contractor in Calgary?

Look for a commercial crew that installs FRP on a regular basis, works over moisture-resistant substrates, uses division bars and proper trim at every seam and edge, and seals joints for food service and wet areas. FRP Contractors is a Calgary-based commercial crew that does exactly this for restaurants, washrooms, daycares, car washes and industrial spaces, and gives free quotes from your drawings or a site visit.

What is FRP and where is it used?

FRP stands for fiberglass reinforced plastic. It is a thin, tough sheet of resin with fiberglass strands that is glued to walls and ceilings. It is used where walls need to be washable, moisture resistant and impact resistant: commercial kitchens, food prep and dish areas, walk-in cooler walls, public washrooms, janitor rooms, daycares, healthcare spaces, car washes, warehouses and food plants.

Is FRP approved for commercial kitchens in Alberta?

Alberta food premises rules call for smooth, durable, non-absorbent and easily cleanable walls in food handling areas, and FRP is one of the most common ways to meet that. Your local health inspector has the final say, so we install to the drawings and finish schedule your project was approved with, including sealed joints with food-safe sealant where it is required.

Can FRP be installed over drywall or concrete block?

Yes. FRP is glued to a solid, flat, clean substrate such as moisture-resistant gypsum board, cement board, plywood or properly prepared concrete block. The surface has to be dry and in tolerance first. If the substrate needs repair or prep, we flag it before we start so it is priced and scheduled, not discovered halfway through.

How much does FRP installation cost in Calgary?

Price depends on the square footage, wall height, how cut up the layout is (doors, outlets, corners, equipment), the substrate, and whether the work is after hours. Open walls go much faster than a busy kitchen line. Send us your drawings or the room sizes and we will send back a free, itemized quote.

Do you supply the FRP panels or just install them?

Most of our work is installing panels, trim and adhesive supplied by the general contractor or owner. If you need us to supply materials as well, tell us in your quote request and we will price it.

How long does an FRP install take?

It depends on the area and layout. A small washroom or janitor room is usually a short visit, while a full commercial kitchen takes longer because of the cutting around equipment, outlets and penetrations. We give you a schedule with the quote, and we can work evenings or weekends in occupied buildings.

Do you work outside Calgary?

Yes. We install FRP across Calgary and nearby communities including Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere, Okotoks, High River and Strathmore, and take projects in Red Deer, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat.
